Mafia is a game you play with a group of other people, where one person is the Game Host. Everyone else is a player who is placed in a random team: most are on team Townies, but a few are put in team Mafia.

The Townies' goal is to work out who the Mafia players are, and execute them by public vote. The Mafias' goal is to slowly kill of all the townies.

The Game Host leads the players through a cycle of daytime and night time. Each day, the everyone gets to discuss and vote on who to execute. Each night the Mafia get to select a player to kill.

There are some other interesting characters who have special abilities; e.g. the Doctor gets to chose someone to save each night, the Detective gets to find out whether someone is a Townie or Mafia.

The game ends when one team is all dead.
